Kiddie Blanket is here to stay... for at least another year!

Yesterday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted to hold off on Testing and Required Certification for one year to all manufacturers of children's products.

As a result, Kiddle Blanket will not be going out of business on February 10, 2009.

In one year's time, the CPSC will vote on whether to again require strict Testing and Certification or continue to hold off.

This means Kiddie Blanket cannot plan for continuation of business beyond next year. Therefore, we will be clearing out our inventory in 2009.

Unless the CPSC changes its rules, or more affordable certification services become available, we will be going out of business in one year's time, by February 10, 2010.

Going out of business on 2/10/09

We are sad to announce that we will be going out of business on 2/10/09.

So if you were thinking of ordering a toddler blanket, get them before they are off the market! New markdowns have been taken. We will continue to list more items as they are made. Please let all your mommy/daddy friends know.

Why are we going out of business? Because of one law: CPSIA.
"Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act" (CPSIA) is a new law that requires all items intended for children 12 and under to be tested for lead and certified by a third party. This testing costs thousands of dollars. Fabric and thread don't typically contain lead and phthalates, but we are grouped in with all other items intended for children. This law was initially aimed at toy manufacturers, but was written so broadly that it included all children's items including blankets and clothing. Most small businesses can not afford the cost of testing and as a result will not be able to sell any products when this law goes into effect on 2/10/09. If the law gets amended to ever exclude fabric as lead free (which we know it is!), we will start up again. Read more about the CPSIA law here.
